Family. When I picked up this quarter’s booklet, the cover said, “Trust in the Lord with all thine
heart.” It hit differently from the millions of times that I have read this scripture before. God
commands us to trust Him. I immediately felt the tugging in my spirit, to examine my capacity
to trust God. One of the realizations I have had is, that most of us “say,” we trust God, but we
fail to exercise our faith in the midst of our storms. We rely on our own recognizance, rather
than believing Him at His word. We have a form of godliness, but we lack the power thereof (2
Tim. 3:5). What stops us from trusting the Lord? To trust means to rely and depend on; firm
belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. This month we are
focusing on “Biblical Thinking,” to develop our trust in the Lord. God does not want us to be
half-hearted; therefore, we must trust Him with our whole heart. The outcome of trusting in the
Lord, with our whole heart will prove to be beneficial and productive.
In the first lesson, we journey down the memory lane of the heroes of faith. We are able to
“Learn from Good Examples,” from this list of believers. Hebrews 11:6, says ‘Without faith it
is impossible to please him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a
rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” We are encouraged to exercise our faith on a daily
basis in order to please God. There is also a promise of a just reward,
Question: What does it mean to obtain a good report? (v. 11:2)
Lesson 2 provides the contrast of how we can “Learn from Bad Examples.” Paul speaks to us
about running this race on our Christian journey. We should not run to win a corruptible crown,
but we ought to run to win an incorruptible crown from our Lord. The things we should not lust
after evil things, nor be idolators, neither let us commit fornication, or tempt Christ, or murmur.
All of things happened as examples for us to not follow.
Question: Why did Paul warn the Corinthians about failing?
Lesson 3, guides us to “Seek Godly Wisdom!” This takes us back to my initial train of thought
of trusting the Lord with your whole heart. The principle is to affirm that we can know right
from wrong if we stick to God’s laws. He wants us to follow to His instruction and not get off
track! If we are learning form our examples of good and bad, we should feel compelled to seek
the wisdom of God, and not the wisdom of this world.
.
Question: In what sense can the path of wisdom be called “life” (Proverb 4:13)?
Lesson 4, challenges us to live according to our faith, not our flesh. We are to “Hold Fast to the
Gospel!” The question is raised, “Are ye so foolish (Gal. 3:3)? Once you begin walking
according to the Spirit, why would you turn back. The charge is to hold fast! Don’t quit, and
don’t let go! When we understand the true nature of being in Christ, there is no reason to not
have a strong grip of faith to be Christlike and live in His image.
Question: How did these converts receive the Holy Spirit?
