Elder John Williams was born on Monday, November 29, 1948, in Atlanta, GA to proud parents the late Margaret and Johnny Williams. To this union seven children were born. John was the second child and the first boy.
Elder John spent the first 16 years of his life living with his family in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He attended First Word Elementary School and W.O. Boston Highschool, Lake Charles, Louisiana. He also attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. Elder John relocated to Amityville, New York in 1964. He attended Amityville Memorial High School. In 1976. Elder John Williams met and married Gladys Jones Williams. They were blessed with 2 children Tonja and Chad Williams. John also was blessed with 3 sons from a previous marriage, John Eric, Michael, and Steven Williams.
John’s favorite pastime was fishing and cooking in the backyard. He loved sports and his favorite teams were all the New York teams. John was employed by Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, NY and Fairchild Republic Farmingdale, NY. He was a dedicated employee for both companies until the two companies relocated out of New York. John changed his profession and became a school bus driver for Huntington Coach Transportation. He was loved by his coworkers, the school district, children, and parents who lovingly referred to him as Mr. John the Bus Driver. He loved his job and worked there until retiring early in 2014 due to health reasons.
Elder John Williams joined the Hollywood Full Baptist Church Family in 1994 and was baptized after attending a one-week revival. The guest speaker was Bishop Andy C. Lewter. The pastor at that time was Reverend Andy C. Lewter Sr.
John became a dedicated and active member. He attended Sunday school and bible classes as well as served on the board of trustees. In 1995, John became an ordained deacon. In 1996 John accepted his calling from God and joined the ministerial staff. In 1997, he became an ordained elder under the tutelage of Pastor Andy C. Lewter Sr. John was a faithful and dedicated servant of God. He loved working in the vineyard with his spiritual brother Elder Otis Lawrence, visiting the sick, bereaved families and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Elder John Williams peacefully transitioned this life on Friday, October 14, 2022 to join his parents Margaret and Johnny Williams and 3 Brothers Paul, George and Mark Joseph Williams. He leaves to cherish and honor in his loving memory: wife Deaconess Gladys Williams, one daughter, Tonja Abrams, Grandchildren (Courtney, Tiffany, Noel, Christian Abrams) Four sons Chad Williams(Michelle) Grandchildren (Ayana and Sariah Williams) John Eric Williams(Wendy) Grandchildren (Desmond and Leila Dorsey, Jovan, Stefon, Vanessa, Erica Williams) Michael Williams(Tanya) Grandchildren(Shelby and Amaya Williams) Steven Williams, Grandchild Courtney Ramsey (Caleb). 7 Great-grandchildren Emir, Nova, Jace, Rex, Joel, Noriel, Bella Rose. 3 sisters Carnell Williams (Bayshore, New York) Barbra Williams (Lake Charles, Louisiana) Elizabeth Mitchell (Lake Charles, Louisiana), Goddaughter Kara Smith (Jayson), and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
