Eastern Baptist Association Women’s Department

Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Women’s Auxiliary of the Eastern Baptist Association had their first quarterly meeting.  This meeting was the first under the newly elected president, Melvina C. Smith, Holy Trinity Baptist Church, Amityville, NY. Needless to the say, the meeting was held at this location, and the women from Kings, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk County were present. They recognized the new staff, and honored the former president for her presence and continued support.

Under the leadership of Missionary Smith, they are instituting a segment focusing on “Health and Well-Being,” to build the body of women and to address any issues of concern in their personal lives.  They are aware of the many challenges women face and or not discussed; therefore, many are struggling and possibly drowning, in silence.  They are also establishing a greater focus on prayer, and the need to come together to pray for one another and others.

I had the privilege of attending this meeting as the first speaker for the “Health and Well-Being,” segment. My presence was requested to share my story of life after a mastectomy. I celebrate 10 years of being breast cancer free; and I am a breast cancer thriver! A thriver is someone who has experienced a difficult or threatening life event and has grown from it. Although, cancer came at an inopportune time, it catapulted me into another level of faith. My journey from cancer to wholeness has redefined my walk in Christ, edified my faith, and transformed my life.  Whatever you might be going through in this season, I double-dare you to invite God into it and trust Him for the outcome. He’s the only that can still see in the darkness, and His timing is impeccable!
