As Bishop Andy C. Lewter of the Hollywood Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral in Amityville, NY, prepares to celebrate his 70th birthday this month, the community reflects on his remarkable journey of faith, service, and leadership.

Born on May 11, 1954, at St. John’s Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, Bishop Lewter’s life has been intertwined with a legacy of ministry and commitment to community. His roots trace back to esteemed lineage, as the grandson of Bishop William Edward Fuller, Sr., founder of the Fire Baptized Holiness Church in 1898. His father, Dr. Andy C. Lewter, Sr., served as the pastor of Hollywood Baptist Church of Amityville, NY, from 1959 to 2005 and was the founder of the Ministerial Alliance of North Amityville and Vicinity.

Bishop Lewter’s journey of education and ministry began at Long Island Lutheran High School, where he laid the foundation for his academic pursuits. He continued his studies at Oberlin College, Harvard Divinity School, and the United Theological Seminary, honing his theological acumen and preparing for a life of service.

Throughout his illustrious career, Bishop Lewter has left an indelible mark on every community he has served. From his tenure as the lead pastor at the Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Ossining, NY, from 1978 to 1985, to his leadership at the Oakley Baptist Church of Columbus, Ohio, from 1985 to 2005, Bishop Lewter has been a beacon of hope and guidance.

Currently, Bishop Lewter serves as the president of the Ministerial Alliance of North Amityville and Vicinity, where he tirelessly advocates for the needs of the community. As the Senior Pastor of the Hollywood Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral in Amityville, NY, and the Queens Ministry of New York City, he continues to inspire congregants with his wisdom, compassion, and unwavering faith.
